What We’re Savoring on the Streets this Summer

David Cass and Giovanni Salvador of Tricycle Ice Cream

Tricycle Ice Cream

Who needs a truck when you could have a trike? Since last year, buddies-turned-business partners David Cass and Giovanni Salvador have been serving up homemade ice cream sandwiches out of an old-fashioned vendor tricycle, Tricycle Ice Cream. The duo keep their tricycle’s custom-built cooler chock full of creamy treats in seasonally inspired, locally sourced flavors like the Madagascar Vanilla Bean Ice Cream on an Espresso Shortbread Cookie (with New Harvest “whisper” espresso) and Strawberry Ice Cream on a Salty Pretzel Shortbread Cookie (featuring local strawberries).

O'Crepe Food Truck

O'Crepe Food Truck

Since August 2014, Brian Sousa can usually be found behind the wheel—or at the griddle—of his food truck O’Crepe, which specializes in crepes of all kinds. O’Crepe has a Parisian vibe, offering a delicious assortment of sweet and savory crepes, plus a variety of drinks. Try the cold-brew iced coffee for a summer pick-me-up, along with Chef Sousa’s favorite crepe: the Sweet T, with cinnamon sugar and maple syrup, plus his personal addition of bananas. Don’t miss the proscuitto and St. Jorge cheese crepe with quince jam, or the Brie Mine with fig compote and sliced green apple. After attending Johnson & Wales, Sousa decided to open up the truck in Providence. “This is my city!” he says, nonchalantly flipping a perfectly golden crepe. Bon appétit!
