Internships at Edible Rhody

Edible Rhody Internship 2026

Edible Rhody is looking for a highly self-motivated individual to join their small team of dedicated, local food loving professionals for an internship opportunity. The ideal candidate should be interested in local, sustainable foods, have a passion for food in general and be comfortable interacting with the variety of professionals with whom Edible Rhody communicates regularly. The candidate should be prepared to produce work independently and self monitor their work deadlines.

This internship does not offer an office environment, but interns will meet virtually and in person with the Edible Rhody team. Length of internship to be determined with individual candidates (examples: full academic year, semester, summer).

The ideal candidate is interested in and has knowledge/experience in the following areas:

  • Writing & Journalism
  • Social Media
  • Local Food & Cooking
  • Sustainable Agriculture
  • Design software a plus
  • Ideal but not mandatory: A licensed driver with own transportation.

Must be available to work approximately 8 to 10 hours a week (hours are designed to be flexible and will vary in accordance with the editorial calendar).

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing projects for online and print.
  • Recipe editing and recipe testing.
  • Helping execute social media strategies.
  • Proofreading quarterly print edition before it goes to press.
  • Assisting with quarterly magazine distribution (requires driving; lunch and mileage stipend included).
  • Attending local events and festivals representing Edible Rhody.
  • Other editorial or marketing projects as assigned.
  • Assisting with advertising activities, including prospect development and follow-up.

This unpaid internship offers a unique chance to gain writing and publishing experience in a very mission driven environment and to get up close and personal with the local foods movement in Rhode Island.

Once familiar with print and online content, the intern is welcome to propose editorial story ideas to our editor for future print issue publication. If published, payment will be made at standard rates for freelance contributors.

  • Please submit: a short cover letter detailing why you would be a good fit for our internship program; your current resume; three writing samples; and contact information for three recommendations.
  • Please contact: Genie McPherson Trevor, Editor. [email protected]; 401-465-6239.
