Good News from The Cooked Goose and Matunuck Oyster Bar

Two long-time restaurant establishments suffered devastating fires in 2025: The Cooked Goose in January; Matunuck Oyster Bar in May. Both are rising from those ashes with renewed vigor and immense gratitude to the first responders.

Andrew Nathan, co-owner with Jennifer Gibson of The Cooked Goose restaurant, a 20-year institution in Watch Hill, hopes to reopen at the beginning of February 2026. The number of fire inspections for insurance and permits/licenses for rebuilding slowed their progress. But, with a good insurance policy from “The Goose,” the employees have been taken care of and they will be coming back to a very similar space, says Nathan. “We miss our customers!” he stresses.

Meanwhile, Matunuck Oyster Bar (since 2009) will open this winter in the former Feet First and Zero Wampum buildings in Wakefield. As owner Perry Raso explains, “Together, the restaurant [Matunuck Atelier] and the market [Matunuck Market] will offer an elevated dining and shopping experience celebrating local food, global flavors and the timeless art of hospitality.” The tent in East Matunuck will continue service until the Wakefield location opens.

The Edible Rhody team looks forward to celebrating the openings of these beloved Rhode Island eateries alongside their many fans!
