Jeanette Mollis’s personal products business, Herbs and Mylk, began in September 2020 when she started making a clean skin cream for her toddler who was recovering from a bone marrow transplant. Mollis had been working as a phlebotomist for 10 years, but once she started producing skin lotions and creams for Mikey, she poured her curiosity and creativity into the new enterprise. The community that had helped her find a bone marrow donor for her son rallied ’round.
Mollis formulates and produces everything in her shop, located inside the Lafayette Mills building in North Kingstown. Natural ingredients for the soaps, balms, salves, perfumes, body butters and sugar scrubs include shea butter, almond oil, coconut oil and beeswax. Essential oils are added for aroma; clays for color and texture; goat’s milk and raw honey for moisturizing. Mollis strives to source locally, even fresh flowers and herbs from local growers.
Mollis herself modeled for her website, with lots of bare skin to show off her products. “You can’t apply soap wearing sweatpants!” she quips.
