Happy 100th Birthday Adler's!
If you’re a regular reader of Edible Rhody, or even new to our publication, you might have noticed a colorful insert down at the base of our masthead. It’s a list of seasonally rotating colors used in the design of the magazine—all named after like-colored foods. Our seasonal “food colors” are brought to you by Adler’s Design Center & Hardware in Providence and its special line of house paints named C2.
We’ve been having fun with those colors since the very first issue of Edible Rhody, when I hatched a plan with third-generation co-owner Harry Adler to feature the creative C2 color palette in the magazine’s layout. And 50 issues later, we’re still “painting” our magazine with colors like Quahog, Salty Brine, Cornbread, Pumpkin, Deep Freeze, Mojo and Wasabi.
This year, Adler’s is celebrating its 100th birthday. Founded and operated by the Adler family since 1919—it doesn’t get more local than Adler’s. You’ll find Harry at the paint counter and his cousin and third-generation co-owner Marc Adler in hardware, always with a smile and always ready to help—or entertain your wacky idea when you’re starting a magazine. Thank you, Adler’s, and happy 100th birthday to our favorite neighborhood hardware store!
