Internships at Edible Rhody
SUMMER
Edible Rhody magazine is looking for a highly motivated college-level student to join its small team of dedicated, local food-loving professionals for a summer internship opportunity. The ideal candidate should be connected to or interested in the local foods movement in Rhode Island, have a passion for sustainable foods and be comfortable interacting with the variety of professionals with whom Edible Rhody communicates regularly. The candidate should be prepared to produce work independently and on schedule.
The magazine has no main office. Both editor and publisher work from home offices respectively so this internship does not offer an office environment, but relies on electronic communications with face-to-face meetings as needed.
We are looking for someone who is interested and has knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Writing & Journalism
- Social media, blogging, web content systems, spreadsheets
- Local food and cooking
- Sustainable agriculture
- Design software, a plus
Must have your own computer with reliable Internet access and be available to work on average 15 hours a week. (Hours may vary and are generally flexible) Ideal but not mandatory: A licensed driver with own transportation. Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Helping execute social media strategies
- Writing projects for print and online blog
- Updating website content
- Assisting with magazine distribution (includes driving)
- Managing subscriber and advertiser mailing lists
- Attending events like farmers’ markets and festivals to distribute magazines and represent Edible Rhody
- Recipe editing and other recipe tasks as needed, including recipe testing with the editor
- Other editorial or marketing projects as assigned
If published in the print edition, payment will be made at standard rates for contributors.
This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity for interns to gain magazine/publishing experience in a very mission driven environment and to get up close and personal with the local foods movement in Rhode Island.
