PB & Cacao An Award-Winning Superfood
Most kids love peanut butter and many of them love the combo of peanut butter and chocolate. Former yoga teacher and nutrition consultant Jennifer Beauregard turned her attention to “Superfoods” about seven years ago, using her Vitamix power blender to make peanut butter. She looked at its nine amino acids as a potent protein source, and she decided to boost its mineral content and antioxidant properties with coconut oil, cacao powder, Celtic sea salt and wildflower honey. Her friends and family found it so tasty that she began making it at Hope & Main in Warren and started selling SanoBe (“Be Healthy”) peanut butter last July. She gets North Carolina natural peanuts from Hampton Farms in Massachusetts (“because they are not over-roasted”); all other ingredients are organic. She adds hemp seeds to one of the three PB flavors and cacao nibs (as well as powder) to another. The latter, Crunchy Cacao, won a 2018 Good Food Award in San Francisco (199 winners out of 2,000 entrants). “The jewel about my peanut butter is that every single calorie is efficiently and effortlessly converted to fuel,” Beauregard says. New flavors might include hazelnut or coffee.
