Send Snooky's for the Holidays
It often happens that a hobby for family and friends can eventually lead to a small business. So it was for Snooky Viveiros. She started making her “special recipe” back in 2010. But until the Covid lockdown, she had not pursued the necessary licenses, insurance and marketing for an official enterprise. Now, she sells (and tells shoppers about) Snooky’s Cookies at the year-round farmers market in Tiverton and mails out packaged cookies to Rhode Island, Massachusetts and beyond.
“I wanted to use oats for the fiber, for being gluten-free and for their cholesterol-reducing properties,” Viveiros says, “and to use oil instead of butter, to keep them dairy-free.” Add-ins, such as chocolate chips and others, take away the dairy-free designation but hold on to the energy boost of the oats and brown sugar, bound together with vegetable oil and eggs.
Flavor variations include butterscotch or cinnamon chips, Ghirardelli’s raspberry bark or peppermint chocolates, lemon juice + zest, maple syrup + pecans, or cocoa powder + peanut butter. Her cookies made especially for your pooch come with peanut butter and are baked in the shape of bones or paw prints. The newest cookie variation, aimed at nursing moms, has brewer’s yeast and flaxseed added to the original mixture.
Available for shipping nationwide at SnookysCookies.com, also at the Tiverton Farmers Market, and in Westport, MA, at Lee’s Market and Westport River Vineyards.
