Rhode Island Wild Plant Society’s Best Native Plant Sale
Buy and learn from the experts at the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society’s “Best Native Plant Sale” on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the University of Rhode Island’s East Farm, 1 East Farm Road, Kingston, RI 02881. More than 150 different species will be offered this year. Find unusual species grown by RIWPS gardeners. Fill your garden with spotted beebalm, a hummingbird favorite; whorled milkweed, which feeds the Monarch butterfly; and Virginia mountain mint, a magnet for bees and butterflies. Many plants, including little bluestem, cardinal flower and swamp milkweed, are grown from locally collected seed. Others, including American holly and trumpet honeysuckle, are propagated from cuttings of wild Rhode Island plants. Members may come early, at 8 a.m. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help you find the best plants for your garden. Free admission.
