Using shrubs is a great way to add complex fruit flavors into drinks, especially when harmonizing with or playing off the main tasting notes of spirits.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 1 Cocktail
  • 1½ ounces Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin
  • 1 ounce sloe gin
  • ¾ ounce Plum Shrub*
  • Soda water
  • Brandied cherry for garnish

Preparation

Combine gin, sloe gin and shrub over ice in a mixing glass, stir for 10 seconds, pour over fresh ice in a highball glass, top with soda water and garnish with a brandied cherry.

*Plum Shrub

Pit and chop 3 ripe plums and place in a nonreactive container with ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 cup white vinegar. Cover and store in a dark, cool place for 2 days. Strain and pour liquid into a clean bottle and refrigerate for up to 1 year.
