For the two owners of Ivy & Lace Bake Shop, cake decorating is way to explore artistic creativity and work on technical prowess. Amy Ruggere was a professional illustrator and artist with a love for baking and Amanda Thompson fell in love with baking in high school and set off to hone her skills by earning a degree in pastry arts at Johnson & Wales. And they love how their different abilities and work experience complement each other’s creative process.

The two met working at Scialo’s Bakery on Federal Hill in Providence (Amanda for six years; Amy for two). Together, they fulfilled a common dream by opening their own bakery in the fall of 2018. Since then, they’ve been creating custom cakes for weddings and celebrations, plus daily handmade pastries including dessert bars (brownies, lemon squares, pecan pie bars), cupcakes and breakfast treats (muffins and both sweet and savory scones and strudels) plus playful decorated cookies and their signature baklava cheesecake. They use apples from a nearby farm, ricotta from a local creamery and nuts from Virginia & Spanish Peanut Co. With sit-down tables and fresh coffee brewing, you’ll enjoy calm surroundings and a warm welcome while you nibble on pastry and eye the creative cakes with seasonal and whimsical motifs.
