Spring Elixir

Give your pitcher drinks an extra sparkle with floral ice cubes for each glass. Try them with tulip petals, violets, lilac blossoms, forsythia and peony petals or herbs such as mint, lemon balm, fennel fronds, cilantro or thyme.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces dry gin (try South County Distillers Gin or Bully Boy Merchant Gin)
  • 8 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
  • 4 ounces mint syrup*
  • Prosecco or cava
  • Grapefruit wheels for garnish
  • Fresh mint sprigs for garnish
  • Floral ice cubes** (see recipe below)

Preparation

Fill a large pitcher with ice, add gin, grapefruit juice, mint syrup and stir. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with grapefruit wheels and fresh mint sprigs. Pour into your favorite glasses filled with floral ice cubes. Add grapefruit wheels and mint sprigs for garnish. Makes 1 pitcher or enough for 4 people.

* Mint Syrup Combine 1 cup each water and granulated sugar in a small saucepot, bring to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat. Add ½ cup packed mint leaves, pressing leaves to release oils. Cool, strain, discard solids and funnel into a clean bottle. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

** Floral Ice Cubes Fill ice cube tray with herbs and edible flowers, top with water and freeze. Prepare a day in advance for best results.
