Stateside "Irish" Coffee

When the weather is colder and the days are shorter, a foolproof coffee cocktail recipe can work wonders to raise the spirits. Great with brunch or after dinner, Audrey King’s Stateside “Irish” Coffee is her take on classic Irish coffee. Audrey swaps in Rhode Island’s own Sons of Liberty Uprising American Whiskey. It’s distilled from stout beer made with 100% malted barley with notes of mocha, caramel and a hint of vanilla from newly charred American oak barrels. The bold caffeinated kick of New Harvest Coffee’s Steamroller Blend resonates layers of bittersweet chocolate when added to the whiskey, leaving you with buttery cocoa notes on the palate. The literal cream on top is a generous dollop of whipped cream spiked with Grand Marnier, a liqueur made by infusing Cognac with bitter oranges from the Caribbean, a welcome buzz of citrus to sweeten the cream. Stock the holiday bar with a bottle of whiskey and Grand Marnier, brew a fresh pot of coffee and surprise your guests with a spirited round of Stateside “Irish” Coffee.

  • 16 ounces (2 cups) Sons of Liberty Uprising American Whiskey
  • 40 ounces (5 measured cups) New Harvest Coffee (preferably Steam Roller Blend)
  • 2 cups spiked whipped cream*

Instructions

This is our favorite recipe to pair with board games and pajamas when everyone is back home for the holidays. Yields 8 cocktails.

Pour 2 ounces whiskey into each of 8 mugs and top with hot coffee. Top each mug with a dollop of whipped cream.

*Whip 2 cups chilled heavy cream with 1 teaspoon granulated sugar and 2 ounces Grand Marnier until the cream forms peaks. Refrigerate until serving. Yields 8 servings
