It’s been a long four-year road to get to a comfortable, accessible storefront for Sin, but the new West Side location for this industrious and creative baking enterprise is invitingly bright. It has white tiled walls and lots of windows, including an interior one where you can watch Sin’s cake decorators do their magic. And, irresistibly for owner/chef Jennifer Luxmoore, her signature blood-red logo color shows up on the outside door, countertop stools and even little red devil horns atop the chocolate cupcakes’ frosting. She herself has a red chef jacket, complete with her logo of a devil’s tail swirling out of the “S.” And, as she has done with her successful specialty cakes and pies, she seeks out quality local ingredients and uses less sugar in her desserts. She’s also always working on new recipes, even vegan or gluten-free items. Right now, the shop has three vegan scones, gluten-free brownies and a gluten-free cupcake. Cookies are made with a twist—chipotle peanut butter!—plus Whoopie pies, bread pudding and pie or cake slices. Future plans include evening hours to offer beer and wine pairings with seasonal desserts, though the “seasons” will be measured by the seven deadly sins: lust = chocolate cake; wrath = crème brulée; sloth = cheesecake. Sinfully delicious!
