Grey Sail Brewing put Westerly on the map for beer lovers. And it’s all thanks to Jen and Alan Brinton, the powerhouse couple behind it all.

In 2012, they distributed 900 barrels of craft beer; in 2019, they distributed 9,500 barrels.

“We’ve grown a lot but haven’t become so big that it’s not sustainable,” Jen said, adding that they expanded the tasting room and production space and will be opening a distillery in the coming months. “We’ll always be small enough to be the local brewery but we’re grateful to have grown enough so we can now employ 15 people full time.” (Alan and Jen in center of above photo.)

Their business compound helps them stand apart in the local brewery scene, Jen said. Visitors can see the brewery and then enjoy the taproom, which has an outdoor space and bocce court.

“We focus a lot on being a part of the Westerly community … and having space for people to gather is a big part of that.”
