A Calendar of 12 Tea Towels
As a child who loved to draw, Leah Ammerman labeled one of her pictures “cricicis,” spelling it as she heard “crickets.” When she began her own graphic design business, she gave it that name, Cricicis Design (two hard “c’s” and a soft one). After she moved to Rhode Island four years ago, Stock Culinary Goods became a steady client, and owner Jan Dane invited her to make something to sell at the store. Thus, she created screen-printed tea towels in a Providence design, a Block Island one, one with spark-plug lighthouses and ... 12 towels with veggies, fruits and foods for each month of the year. Winter squash, cauliflower, oysters and sugar kelp are spotlighted for December through March, respectively. “I spread out the shapes—they all have to go together as a set with colors that also go together,” Ammerman explains. Originally inspired by Farm Fresh RI’s local foods guide, Ammerman noted that she prints each seasonal design monthly but should have winter months available for the holidays.
