Tuck Into a Cozy Nook
Shannon Wylie first made a business plan for her coffeehouse when she was in high school; then again in college. Then, after seven years as a property manager, she was ready to take the leap, right onto Main Street, East Greenwich, with The Nook Coffee House. Opened last January, The Nook has New Harvest coffee (roasted in Pawtucket), Aqua ViTea (from Vermont), MEM Tea (from Boston) and several Rhody-made snacks, including Bellicchi’s Best Biscotti; Rainbow Bakery’s bagels, muffins and monkey-bread; and Nook-made glutenfree “Protein Bites” with oats, seeds and peanut butter. Wylie has created a popular Purple Rain latte with homemade lavender syrup and a Spiced Latte, with cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and maple syrup. The Aqua ViTea is kombucha, a coldfermented tea on draft, and Wylie likes to rotate the flavors, such as turmeric, strawberry-sage and hibiscus-ginger-lime. Another not-so-well-known tea is matcha, from MEM, mixed from a powder form of actual green tea leaves, giving its drinkers even more antioxidants. New business owner Wylie has been thrilled by her customers’ support and encouragement, including from nearby shop-owners.
