Holiday Cobbler

Currently my favorite Cobbler uses Amontillado sherry with its harmonious blend of salinity and nuttiness. Or try Fino sherry, which will be drier and a little herby. Be sure to try different styles of fortified wines to find your own favorites.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: Makes 1 cocktail
  • 4 orange slices (or tangerine, blood orange or clementine)
  • 2 ounces sherry (or Amontillado or Fino sherry, Port or sweet vermouth)
  • ¼ ounce simple syrup (or your favorite fruit or herbal liqueur)
  • Crushed ice
  • 2–3 blackberries for garnish
  • Sprigs of fresh mint for garnish
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Preparation

Muddle orange slices in the bottom of a julep tin or rocks glass, add your preferred fortified wine, add crushed ice, swizzle or stir vigorously for 15 seconds and top with a dome of crushed ice. Garnish and dust with powdered sugar.
