These Z’s Won’t Put You to Sleep!
Quite the opposite! Z Pita Chipz are perky, super-thin pita chips made crispy by owner Heather Zoller and lightly seasoned with sea salt. She gives the chips a slight curl, the better to hold on to and crunch, like the long-ago ad that stressed “can’t stop eatin’ ‘em!” Heather’s road to her current business began with a college job, when she worked part-time for a Lebanese family who owned a popular but now-closed restaurant in Wakefield. They introduced her to falafel, hummus, tabbouleh and wraps and, following a brief banking stint after graduating from the University of Rhode Island, she operated Z Food Truck for five years offering Middle Eastern–inspired food. Periodically, she would have a “special” of pita chips, and her customers went wild for them, so much so that she sold her truck last winter and went to Warren’s food business incubator, Hope & Main, to make her chips full-time. She now sells them at 20 retail outlets; she does special events and, in season, the Schoolyard Market in Warren. “I like to talk to people, and I like making people happy through food,” says Heather.
