When Lisa Valentino dreamed about opening her Warren bookstore Inkfish, she wanted it to be “a community hub with a relaxing vibe.” She also wanted to support “all things local,” from authors to greeting cards to food products (from nearby Hope & Main) to craftspeople. The name comes from the ink in books and the former shipbuilding/fishing industries in Warren. She sponsors weekly events at the store, including food popups, author readings/signings, storytelling, performance art, craft chats, workshops and seasonal happenings, such as celebrating National Dog Day. She’s got a great collection for kitchen-minded book buyers, but Lisa stresses that she’s not just a cookbook store. “I carry all genres and I curate what’s popular, local authors and award-winners—so people know they’re going to find a good read.”

They can also find local crafts, such as candles or shopping bags, local art and, most especially, local authors and illustrators, whether in the mystery, nonfiction, fiction, poetry, travel or children’s categories. Lisa also has a “trade-back” program for customers to trade in used-but-like-new books for credit toward their next purchases. Wednesday through Sunday.
