“It’s a powerful [initiative],” said Adam Mir, founder and managing partner of Bucktown, on Providence’s West Side, of Dish Up RI. Covid provided the opportunity to launch some products for retail sale, Mir said, and “Hope & Main has offered tons of free advice and services and the road map to do it. [Having] an outlet via Dave’s Marketplace made it worthwhile.”
His initial product is the All Day Seasoning, a spice mix that Mir uses for their fried chicken and French fries. He plans to follow with Fishfry, a seasoned seafood breading mix, and Cap’n’s Comeback Sauce. Bucktown’s customers often buy extra sides of the Comeback Sauce—similar to a remoulade. Down the road, Mir anticipates possible retail sales of fish cakes, using Rhode Island’s underutilized fish.
“I like that Bucktown and these products can support one another from a customer awareness perspective,” said Mir. “This program really leverages customers’ fondness for all the participating restaurants and provides an outlet for people who want to support them.”
