FARMER / FARM: TYLER & KARLA YOUNG, YOUNG FAMILY FARM

Tyler & Karla Young figured out pretty early on that visitors to their farm stand in Little Compton like to know where their food is coming from and who is growing it, explained Karla.

“When Tyler is in the farm stand, he tells customers how he grows the produce we sell and will often ask customers to come pick a peach or other piece of produce with him. They taste and feel how different food is when you support local farms,” she said. “Customers want to connect their food to the farmer.”

It’s a labor of love for the couple, who bought the property in 1997. Today they farm about 300 acres of land, making them one of the largest growers in the state. “It’s all about the customers and the community,” Tyler said. “We always ask the customer what they like and don’t like because their support is why and how we do this.”
