Love to Cook? Love Good Food? Foodlove is for You!
Since 1980, when the Newport Restaurant Group turned the former New York Yacht Club on Sayer’s Wharf, Newport, into The Mooring, they’ve been innovating. Whether it was adding restaurants (they now have 15), linking with local suppliers or trying out new cuisines, they have always been willing to try something new, according to President and CEO Paul O’Reilly. When the pandemic forced shutdowns, with more takeout and delivery, NRG began to rethink its systems. “People really wanted local, fresh, high-quality food,” O’Reilly recalls, “and we saw a way to give it to them.” Foodlove Market, a blend of a full-service market and a café, will feature a vast selection of NRG prepared foods, including NRG staples such as The Mooring’s chowder, Bolognese sauce from Avvio or Trio’s meatballs. There will also be wood-fired pizza, fresh-made sushi and a classic deli section. The café will serve three meals daily and offer beer and wine, with seasonal outdoor seating. “The market will be curated toward people who really love to cook and to eat,” O’Reilly emphasizes. Definitely geared to “foodlove.”
