Some of us are born with it: sensitive skin. And most of us develop them: wrinkles. Marlene Wojcik wasn’t finding a product that helped with either, so she invented her own: Wonder Face Cream, the flagship product of Earth Essence Herbals. She never guaranteed that the face cream would take wrinkles away, but customers kept returning to her, saying, “But it makes my skin look so much better—I’ll take two more jars!” After a 12-year career in social work, Wojcik set up a business making decorative pins, and from there started her own herbal products business. She took many classes and studied with local herbalists and, over the years, she’s refined her formulas, using some herbs from her garden (calendula and comfrey), organic coconut oil and aloe, essential oils from California and natural herbs from other suppliers. The Wonder cream is still one of her stars, as is Green Salve, for first aid needs; a Gardener’s Hand Cream; and a Peppermint Foot Cream. In addition, she has developed bath and body oils, spritzers, facial scrubs and masks, a lip balm, a sports massage oil and the very popular Buzzzzz Off, a natural bug repellent.
